When you’re using Incogniton you’re most likely also using proxies to browse anonymously and mask your real IP address. There are several proxy types to choose from, so which one do you need? Discover the different possibilities in this article.
Proxy hosting types / IP sources
- Static residential proxies: These proxies are sourced from real residential devices, giving them the highest degree of anonymity. They are suitable for almost 80% of the use cases, making them the most used proxies.
- ISP proxies: These are a type of residential proxies, sourcing directly from the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that is used for the residential devices. ISP proxies are very reliable.
- Datacenter proxies: These proxies are sourced from large server facilities designed for proxy services. They are fast and affordable, but are also easily detectable, because they don’t belong to real users.
- Mobile proxies: These type of proxies route your traffic through mobile carrier IP’s and are ideal for working with mobile audiences. Mobile proxies offer the highest level of disguise, but are also the most expensive proxies.
- Free unblocked proxies: With these proxies you can access blocked content, test geolocations or other simple tasks with no costs involved. However, free proxies are not suitable for account management, as they can vary in performance and are shared with multiple users.
Proxy connection types
When buying a proxy you can choose from different connection types:
- HTTP proxies: These proxies are used for web traffic (HTTP and HTTPS requests) and are widely compatible with web browsers.
- HTTPS proxies: These are the same as HTTP proxies but add encryption using SSL, meaning all data between your device and the proxy server is secured.
- SOCKS proxies: These proxies are used for all kinds of traffic, for example apps and torrents, so not only web traffic.
Static versus rotating proxies
Static proxies keep the same IP address for as long as needed, which is ideal for working on the same accounts for extended periods of time. Rotating proxies automatically switch between different IP addresses. For each request a new IP will be assigned. There are also sticky proxies, which also rotate IP addresses, but not as frequent as rotating proxies.
